We’ve eaten ice cream in theme parks, cities, and towns, but my favorite ice cream is beach ice cream. That’s why I was excited to eat a lot of Cocoa Beach Ice Cream.
Twistee Treat
When you drive past a Twistee Treat, there is no question as to what they sell.
There should be more ice cream themed architecture in the world.
Located in Port Canaveral, adjacent to Cocoa Beach, this Florida chain, serves up fun, treats.
A fan of tacos, in all forms, I opt for the Reece’s Waffle Taco.
It’s yummy, but a little messy to eat.
Shannon orders a Twirl, which is Twitee’s version of a Blizzard.
A bonus treat, the neighborhood peacock comes for a visit.
At home we have wild turkeys, but I’ve never seen a wild peacock. The peacock must be a frequent, ice cream stand visitor, because staff have a cup of feed ready for him.
Is Twistee Treat mind blowing ice cream? No. Should you still visit because it’s super fun? Yes.
The Florida Key Lime Pie Company
Located directly across the parking lot from Ron Jon’s Surf Shop, The Key Lime Pie Company, is a store
overflowing with goodness. They sell Salt Water Taffy, jams, key lime pie galore, but we
are here for their homemade ice cream.
There are a variety of flavors on offer, but when eating Cocoa Beach Ice Cream, at The Florida Key Lime Pie Company, ordering the key lime pie ice cream seems a must.
My scoop is topped with a key lime sauce, which is an excellent touch.
Though I wish the overall flavor was more tart, I appreciate that the light flavor, makes this a refreshing ice cream.
If you are eating Cocoa Beach ice cream on a Saturday or Sunday, between 2pm and 6pm, at The Florida
Key Lime Pie Company, you can meet the famous Sweetie. Sweetie is a blind, rescue, alligator. She is the first alligator to be sworn in as an official, Florida, police, deputy. Sadly, meeting Sweetie, did not fit into our schedule, but it’s a fantastic way to make eating Cocoa Beach ice cream, extra memorable.
The Fat Donkey
If you create a cute, quirky, building, like Twistee Treat or Little Man Ice Cream, in Colorado, I’m there.
Also, if you give your homemade ice cream shop an amusing name, like The Fat Donkey, I’m there.
Like Twistee Treat, The Fat Donkey has several Florida locations.
The flavors are creative and abundant. It’s almost impossible to choose.
There’s Malt Ball Fudge, Baja Chocolate Marshmallow, and Raspberry Truffle. I try a scoop of the Mai Kai Coconut.
The ice cream is delicious. I greatly regret that we saved eating Cocoa Beach ice cream, at The Fat Donkey, for our last night. I would have returned every night.
Whether you pre-game or post-game your ice cream, I recommend visiting The Tiny Turtle, next door to
The Fat Donkey. They serve up some tasty chips, salsa, and tacos.
If you’re visiting Canaveral National Seashore, Kennedy Space Center, or here just to soak up some sun, visit at least one shop that sells Cocoa Beach ice cream.
