Out of the theme parks to go “Lounging” Around Disney, Epcot is a great option. Many park visitors arrive to Epcot’s World Showcase to take the drinking around the world challenge (having a drink from each country in a single day). Since we’re not quantity drinkers, and I like to keep the contents of my stomach fully intact, we take the it-will-take-us-many-trips-and-probably-many-years drinking around the world challenge.
Tutto Gusto Wine Cellar-Italy
Located in Epcot’s Italy Pavilion, you may walk by Tutto Gusto Wine Cellar without noticing it’s there.
Being a “cellar,” Tutto Gusto is a nice, dark place, to cool off on a hot day. Being a lounge, it’s not a popular spot for families with kids (though we did see a few), so we have no trouble walking right up and getting a table.
Sitting on a cozy, corner sofa, adds an extra touch of relaxation to our wine cellar experience.
Our goal, get a wine flight, as well as some munchies.
There are more wine flights to choose from than we expected, creating a Lounging Around Disney challenge. I settle on the Powerhouse Reds. Shannon gets From the Hills of Piemonte.
I wish every flight came with handy information cards.
We taste both flights and agree that my deep, fruity, red wines, make the better flight.
The wine cellar offers several combination tasting plates. You can also mix and match the items if you choose. We get the Gusto Plate-La Siciliana that includes mozzarella, a cured meat, and eggplant salad.
Appreciators of meatballs, we order a plate to give them a try.
Out of everything we eat, the eggplant salad is the standout. The rest of the food is tasty, but nothing you couldn’t find at an average Italian restaurant.
A complaint I often see regarding Tutto Gusto Wine Cellar, is that it’s overpriced. I agree that the food and wine are overpriced for what you get, even for a theme park, but if like us, you are kid-less at Disney World, and want a place to escape the hectic theme park vibe, Tutto Gusto is a perfect place to chill-out while Lounging Around Disney.
Rose & Crown Pub-UK
Silly us. Our plan, pop in to Epcot’s Rose & Crown Pub on a Saturday night. We’re looking forward to a drink and a plate of fish and chips. When we arrive however, the pub is packed. So packed, I can’t figure out how to get in the door, let alone how to squeeze through the mass of sweaty, drunk, patrons, to get to the bar. It’s a nightmare scenario that prompts us to bid cheerio to our Saturday, UK, “Lounging” Around Disney plan.
Afternoon, Wednesday, we find ourselves in Epcot again. This time, Rose & Crown Pub is intoxicated-perspiring-horde free.
Bellying up to the bar, I order a Pimm’s Cup. Shannon, who is a Scotch enthusiast, orders the Macallan Flight. According to Disney podcasts and blogs, the Macallan Flight is one of the best drink deals offered at Disney World.
I wasn’t sure how I felt about the gin based liqueur and sprite combination, but I found the Pimm’s Cup a delightfully light, refreshing, cocktail.
Shannon is impressed with Rose and Crown Pub’s generous flight pours of a 12yr, 15yr, and 18yr Macallan. He enjoys the flight, but admits that Macallan doesn’t make his preferred Scotch list.
The atmosphere at Rose & Crown Pub is jolly. There is a musician playing the Beatles, Sir Elton John, and other songs from British Legends.
It’s a good people watching spot. I especially love a group of older British ladies, who order a round of pints, take a ton of selfies, and sing along to the songs. They are having the best day ever.
Rose & Crown Pub, is a lively, cheerful, place to grab a pint, Pimm, or flight. I recommend visiting at least once during a Disney trip, just avoid stopping by on a weekend night.
We had a great time “Lounging” Around Disney at Epcot. Now we have to figure out which country to try next.
