Over the past few years, I’ve developed an appreciation for a well-made cocktail. That appreciation seeded an admiration for the settings that serve cocktails. Whether it’s a beach bar, a historic pub with brick walls and old wood, or a swanky rooftop lounge, it’s one of life’s pleasures to nurse a drink in a terrific setting.
So, on top of the goal to eat all of the ice cream at Disney, there’s now a new quest to visit Disney bars/lounges.
The Brown Derby Lounge – Hollywood Studios
The temperature is melting at Hollywood Studios.
It’s pre-Galaxy Edge, and we conquer the park by late afternoon.
After an early morning rope drop, we successfully ride Slinky Dog Dash, and I FINALLY after years of riding, get to be the Rebel Spy on Star Tours.
Our next fastpass is hours away.
The group of 10 decides to separate for a bit. Our friends go off to meet and greet characters. We set off to meet and greet some martinis.
Not strangers to The Brown Derby Lounge, we settle into a table in the shade. Our wonderful server, Lauren, greets us with two large glasses of ice water.
Ordering a martini flight each, our goal is to have a rest.
The ice water, and the fans placed around the patio, aide in cooling us down.
Leisurely sipping our martinis, we watch harried park goers zip back and forth.
The people watching at The Brown Derby Lounge is great. The cocktails are delectable. This time we are saving our appetites for our Sci-Fi Drive-in dinner, but we’ve eaten at The Brown Derby Lounge in the past and found the food tasty.
It’s an excellent spot if like us, you find yourself needing a little respite, and a martini meet and greet.
Nomad Lounge – Animal Kingdom
Any regular visitor to Disney World knows that Animal Kingdom is hottest and most humid park.
We spend a total of four hours waiting in line to ride Flight of Passage (We rode it twice. Totally worth it), then run around like a tumble monkey, to squeeze in a few more of our favorite attractions. Worn out is an understatement.
There’s time to kill before our dinner reservation at Tiffin, but the prospect of more running around is not appealing. Pre-dinner drinks at the Nomad Lounge are exactly what we need.
Two seats at the bar are open. We sit next to two guys, who tell the bartender that they just turned 21. They want to explore the world beyond $2.00 beers and cheap shots. They want to be mature, refined drinkers, within budget and reason of course. The bartender gives them suggestions of things they could try. It’s adorable.
The menu at The Nomad Lounge is an inspiring work of art. It stirs one’s heart toward exploration.
I order the Dalang’s Delight. It seems like an interesting combination of cocktail and iced tea, and on this blistering day, I could use a nice iced tea.
The air conditioning feels luscious as we swig our tongue and eye pleasing drinks.
A bonus to having pre-dinner drinks at The Nomad Lounge, since it’s connected to Tiffin, we can carry our drinks with us to dinner.
I’d like to try the food and spend more time at The Nomad Lounge before making a full assessment, but for this particular day in Animal Kingdom, it’s exactly what we need.
Abracadabar – Boardwalk
There’s nothing like the adrenaline pump of your arrival day at Disney World. Not wanting to use our park tickets yet, but feeling the call to throw ourselves into the magic, we arrive at the Abracadabar.
There’s no fairytale, pixie-dust here. The theme at Abracadabar, is vintage magician.
A cozy feeling washes over me as soon as we enter the Abracadabar. The room is bathed in a glowing, warm, light.
Magician’s, paraphernalia, decorates the walls.
Keep a close eye on the posters when you visit.
We snuggle into the velvety sofa near the window.
Our bubbly server scurries off after taking our drink order.
I get the Parlor Trick because…bourbon. Shannon gets a dram of Scotch because it happens to be National Scotch Day.
Our earlier totchos from Toothsome almost digested, we add an order of caprese to our drinks.
Taking up prime real estate, and with the bar filling up, a group asks if it would be okay to utilize the unused seats around us.
We invite them to join us. There is a couple who travels, and another couple who are eager to start traveling. We spend the rest of the night discussing favorite destinations, places on our buckelists, and all things Disney. I couldn’t imagine a better way to start our trip week.
Abracadabar truly captures the Disney spirit. The sophisticated drinks, lighting, and décor, evokes the feeling of visiting the dressing rooms of magicians of time past.
If you have a passion for lounges, don’t let the opportunity to stop by Abracadabar disappear.
The first round of Disney lounge visits was a success. I can’t wait until round two.

atIt’s been so long since I have been to Disney World. I wasn’t even aware that they had places that served alcohol. I guess things have changed haha. Looks like you had a great time.

atI love this. My (grown and of age) daughter wants to recreate something similiar to this – she loves a good cocktail and disney, so win-win! Of course, I’d love if she’d invite me to go along!
