The easy way to get to The Citedelle, is to walk up Rue St. Louis. If you desire a challenge, you can take the stairs, located at the end of Dufferin Terrace. Be warned, there are a lot of stairs,

but the view of the St. Lawrence River, and the walk as a whole, is lovely.

Our Citadelle guide, Xavier, gives us an overview of the fort’s history.

During our walk around Le Citedelle de Quebec, Xavier points out historic weapons.

We also learn the function of the various buildings that remain on the grounds.

Tip: Though entirely unplanned, we are thrilled, we booked the 11:00 am tour. Each day, the fortification fires a cannon at 12:00 pm. It’s an exciting addition, to a Citadelle of Quebec, visit.
You can see the cannon fire in the video below.
When booking your tickets online, check the Citadelle’s website, because some days include music performances or guard demonstrations (neither occurred on our visit day).
If you are looking for a great place to get a photo of the most photographed hotel in the world, Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac, visit The Citadelle of Quebec.

The tour ensures you will have plenty of time to get your perfect pics.

One of the interesting experiences, during the guided tour, is a chance to see and learn about the fort’s loopholes.

Xavier invites us to enjoy the museum, located on the La Citedelle de Quebec’s inner grounds.

It’s a well designed museum, with interactive exhibits that make learning, fun.
At the tour’s conclusion, we are permitted to spend as much time as we’d like, exploring the visitor’s center, museum. There are numerous exhibits, showcasing Canada’s military history.

As United States National Park enthusiasts, we’re excited to experience National Historic Sites in other countries. The Citadelle of Quebec (Canada, you need a National Park stamp program), also checks off marks on our forts-around-the world visits, and UNESCO World Heritage Site visits. The tour is comprehensive, the grounds and views are beautiful, and it’s a must-visit-site, to increase your knowledge of Canadian history.
