Like Colonial Williamsburg, as a history nerd kid, I’m surprised this is my first visit ever, to Jamestown Settlement, in Virginia.

Our day starts at opening. First stop is the recreation of a Native American village.

We linger for a moment, but our goal is to get to the ships, before the crowds.

It’s fun, exploring the nooks and crannies of the ships.

The staff are friendly and informative. You can tell they love their jobs.

As more and more people start to shuffle aboard, I’m grateful we arrived first thing.

The weather dictates the rest of the day. They close the outside exhibits for lightening.

The routine for the day is, storm. We wander the indoor museum.

The storm clears, we get to see one outdoor exhibit, before the next storm.

There’s a village recreation, trades people, a rifle demonstration,

chickens,

plenty to keep occupied for a day. Everyone in your traveling party, should find something that sparks an interest, whether it’s sailing, early American cooking, or woodworking.

We’re still unsure what was going on here. I assume a time machine or multiverse situation.

Jamestown Settlement feels more theme park (minus the rides), than historic site. Making it an appealing, exciting day, for families, especially those with kids.

There are a lot of history- education activities in Virginia. Historic Jamestowne and Yorktown are straightforward history. Colonial Williamsburg is history with pizazz. Jamestown Settlement has more action,, and more to do, than the first two sites. Jamestown Settlement is history-learning-fun, and worth a visit, if you have time to squeeze it into your Virginia trip itinerary.
