“Do or do not, but don’t whine about it,” states the Brit to his children at Disney World.
We survive the initial mad-dash-organized-trample, to secure a spot in line for Avatar: Flight of Passage. Normally, we would not wait in an insanely long ride line, but we were told this is the must do ride. Our new British friend entertains us with stories and jokes, usually ending in deliciously terrible puns. During the two hour wait, each line movement is a time for joy.
The ride is better than imagined. It’s not a ride, it’s an experience. We acknowledge our decent into madness, as we get in line to wait another two hours to ride Flight of Passage a second time, sadly, sans British puns.
*Note: On our most recent trip we have a fast pass for Flight of Passage, and we practically walk right on. Do your best to get a FastPass.
The only other thing we know we have to do in Animal Kingdom, is see the Rivers of Light, night show. To cut down wait time in another line, and to ensure we have seats for the show, we book the Rivers of Light Dinner Package.
As adults with venturous palates, we choose Tiffin for our dinner package restaurant.
After enjoying a drink in the Nomad Lounge, we enter the restaurant for the first seating of the evening.
Dinner packages have their own menu, where diners choose an appetizer, entree, and dessert. There are lots of tasty options.
Appetizers: Bread Service and Charred Octopus
Entrees: Surf and Turf and Pan-Seared Alaskan Halibut
Desserts: Tiffin’s Trio and Halo-Halo (a variety of ice cream, of course)
There’s nothing like escaping the chaos, and in this case, the heat, of a theme park, to have a quiet, relaxing, delicious dinner. I hope Disney continues to place restaurants like Tiffin and Skipper Canteen in the parks for those of us with adventurous tastes.
At the end of the meal, we are presented with a beautiful drawing of a warthog.
It’s perfect, as it reminds me of the roaming warthogs at our hotel in Zimbabwe. Our server also presents us with our special tickets for Rivers of Light.
Instead of waiting in line for a seat, we can roll up closer to the show’s start.
The seats are good.
Animal Kingdom has the reputation for being the hottest Disney Park.
Though it’s an open air amphitheater, the air this August evening is stifling. We’re drenched in sweat within minutes.
People tend to hate on Rivers of Light, but I enjoy the show.
It’s calming, and the symbolism of water and fire is inspiring.
I do wish the water screens were more consistent.
On the latest trip we use a FastPass for Rivers of Light. Like the dinner package, we don’t have to line up ahead of time for seats.
Once again the seats are good.
Both selections for having guaranteed seats for Rivers of Light are decent choices. We enjoyed our dinner at Tiffin, but it is pricey (You can also choose Tusker House which is slightly less expensive). The FastPass is no extra cost, but you are burning a fast pass that could be used for another attraction. In the end the decision is up to you, but I recommend seeing the show no matter how you acquire seats.
