There are destinations we choose for the food. Elbow Cay was not that destination. We knew rum drinks would be plentiful, and we’d nosh on a seafood dish or two, but I had no idea what to expect food wise, from a tiny, Bahamas island.
On Da Beach
It’s our first night on an island in the Bahamas. It only seems right to have our first meal on the beach. Fortunately, we don’t have to do a ton of research. We head to the appropriately named, On Da Beach.
Upon arrival, there is a group of snowbirds, gathered around the bar.
Our friendly server recommends the jerk, fish, sandwich. Since we already had the goal of eating seafood, we order the sandwiches and some bbq shrimp as a starter.
The beach, bordered by sparkling, vibrant blue, water, beckons us to order a tropical drinks.
Our dinner is tasty. We take our time, lingering, so we can admire our first Bahamas sunset.
Hope Town Coffee House
A small island, with no competition, I must admit I didn’t have high expectations for Hope Town Coffee House. I should not have been a doubter. Their coffee was top notch, and their bites were delicious.
We sit on the porch two mornings during our stay (we would have visited Sunday too, but they were closed). sipping coffee, eating breakfast sandwiches, and munching on their famous banana-coconut muffin.
With my normal mornings consisting of a race-against-the-clock-to-get-ready,followed by plopping down at a desk to immediately staring at a computer screen, I adore a lazy morning of coffee, breakfast, and nowhere to be.
Wine Down Sip-Sip Wine Bar
They had us at wine bar. Though we certainly enjoyed our daily, rum filled, fruity drinks while in the Bahamas, we thought we’d get a little sophisticated by visiting Wine Down Sip-Sip.
With limited space, we’re seated at one of the large, sofa tables. Another couple is seated at the opposite end. Our table companions are locals. We learn that Elbow Cay locals, are more than willing to spill the Elbow Cay tea. I feel like I know half the residents by the time dinner is concluded.
Instead of ordering large entrees, we order a few appetizers (empanadas and conch fritters),
and one of the flatbreads.
Accustomed to the smallish, rectangular flatbreads we get at home, we are flabbergasted by the huge, entire pizza, set down at our table.
The flatbread is delightful. The crust is crisp and thin. The cheese, thick, gooey, with the perfect amount of chew.
Though we give it our best effort, it’s impossible to eat it all.
Wine Down Sip-Sip, is a great place to have dinner on Elbow Cay. We even return on a different evening for a glass of wine and dessert. The dessert portions are just as ample as the flatbread.
Hope Town Inn and Marina
Have you ever longed for a food, like you’ve longed for a lost lover? Yeah, me too.
Feeling that we earned extra calories, climbing the stairs at the Elbow Reef Lighthouse, we settle down at an outdoor table, at the Hope Town Inn and Marina.
The plan, get the drink of the day, a mango slush, and a snack.
After perusing the menu, we settle on the guava buffalo chicken tenders.
One bite, and we are smitten. We must have magical powers, because we blink, and the chicken tenders disappear.
Something happens that has never happened before. We order a second round of chicken tenders. The second plate of guava buffalo chicken tenders also disappears.
There are still reminiscent conversations about our love for the guava buffalo chicken tenders at The Hope Town Inn and Marina.
Elbow Cay is a little island with big flavors. There were places that looked delicious that we didn’t get to try. It’s the perfect place to relax, while fulfilling your foodie needs.

atWhile the scenery would be the biggest draw, I can really appreciate a good coffee in the morning. It looks like Hope Town Coffee House hits the mark.

atBuffalo chicken… with guava?? Was it part of the dip or part of the sauce? I’m so intrigued…

atThe guava was mixed into the sauce so it was like a sweet and spicy combo. So good.

atOkay, so I got coconut-banana muffins and good coffee…and the you went some other places. 😉 I have a feeling we would be just as magical at the Coffee House, as you were at the marina. We love finding great foods where we don’t expect them. And now we’re armed with a “where to go” when we get back to the Bahamas! Thanks for the recon. 🙂
