Anticipation is high.
I’ve swooned many times over photos of Watkins Glen State Park. The pictures make it seem like something our of a fantasy novel.
Upon entering, I only hope that reality is as glorious as the image seared in my mind.
There are several trails to stretch our legs on. We take the Gorge Trail, as it is the one filled with waterfalls.
The entrance is barely passed, when the first waterfall appears.
We admire the beauty, unaware of the wonders ahead.
There are stairs. Lots of stairs.
The water makes them slippery, so I’m glad I have on my waterproof, hiking shoes.
I’m also happy I have on my quick drying clothes.
I can’t squelch my desire to touch the falls, or my desire to capture the perfect Instagram pic. The cool shower bounces off of my palm, and spills down my arm.
I get completely drenched.
Some of the falls at Watkins Glen trickle down like curtains of rain.
Others splash about in streams.
Thin falls cling to rocky, gorge walls.
The most impressive falls cascade in powerful, thunderous roars.
We hike through falls, behind falls,
and under falls.
The gorge walls reveal additional surprises.
My brain and eyes feel disconnected. It’s difficult to believe the reality of this place.
I do feel like I’m in a fantasy.
Watkins Glen State Park is a magical place.

atWhat time of year were you there? I somehow missed that place when we did a trip around upstate NY.

atThis looks like a wonderful place to spend a few hours – except for the getting drenched part.

atWhat fun – and beauty. I’ve not really explored upstate New York much but I would really like to.
