It’s breakfast time at Denali Dome Home and we are bummed. Not at the breakfast, it has everything we could want.
Not at our stay, as this unique bed and breakfast has been everything we hoped for. We’re bummed because we brought our shiny new National Parks Passport and we want All The Stamps. Unfortunately, during our visit, Denali National Park’s Murie Science and Learning Center is closed for renovations.
We share our lamentations during breakfast.
“Oh, you can still get the stamp. You just have to ask for it. I think you can still get the 100th Anniversary stamp too,” says Anne, owner of Denali Dome Home. Our greedy stamp loving eyes grow wide.
“We have to go there anyway to drop you off at the train. I’ll take you guys to get the stamps,” Anne offers.
If we weren’t already impressed with Denali Dome Home, this was the cherry that tops the sundae.
After dropping our luggage off at the train depot, Anne drives us to the Denali Visitors’ Center. She speaks to the worker at the desk, and to our delight, the worker produces not one, but two stamps. One for the science center, and one commemorating Denali’s 100th Anniversary (though the anniversary was officially last year).
Mission accomplished.
Because we travel to Denali by train, we need a way to get around while there. Our options are, stay at one of the big resorts that provide shuttles to and from the park, or stay in alternative accommodations, and rent a car (not an easy task when first researched).
As an architecture enthusiast, it’s love at first sight when I see pictures of Denali Dome Home.
When we learn that they also have a car rental service, we’re sold.
Anne even books our train tickets for us prior to our trip.
Located in Healy, Alaska, Denali Dome Home is a short, beautiful drive, from the entrance to Denali National Park.
Anne picks us up from the train. Before heading to the bed and breakfast, Anne drives into Denali National Park and shows us how to get to The Wilderness Access Center. It’s invaluable information, as both of our park buses leave from the Access Center at the crack of dawn.
Our bathroom has the biggest shower we’ve had so far in our travels. Perfect for soothing those riding-in-a-bus-all-day muscles.
The room is lovely and impeccably clean. Our bed is huge, and so comfortable. Much needed after spending the day exploring the nature in Denali National Park.
Each day we come back to a new book and cuddly friend.
Never having stayed in a dome shaped building, I’m fascinated by every inch of the home.
I especially love the views of the gorgeous grounds.
Anne makes sure there are plenty of opportunities to stop and smell the roses.
One of the best parts about staying at Denali Dome Home…adorable Scottie dogs. Raven and McCloud are friendly and full of personality.
After the end of a busy day, spent with many tourists, it’s nice to return to the calm, quiet, Denali Dome Home.
Anne and Terry provide a wealth of advice and information regarding visiting Denali National Park. They can arrange for you to have a car, ride the train, and if unlike us, you have plenty of time, they can even help you book extra adventures like rafting and tours.
From booking our train tickets, to picking us up and dropping us off at the train, to making sure that we got all the park stamps, Denali Dome was one of the best bed and breakfasts we’ve stayed in during our travels. We felt more like friends than nameless tourists, and I couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else while visiting Denali National Park.

atWe have wanted to visit Denali NP for so long. This is a really wonderful find and a great home base to use. I love all the views from the interior. We’d love to stay here and always awesome to have the locals’ recommendations.

atThis sounds like a fantastic B&B! I love hearing about places like this that treat you more like family instead of just another customer. The Dome Home itself is such a cool design, and it looks like a great retreat after a long day of exploring. I’m glad you could get your stamps, as well!!
