Staying at The Peninsula All-Suite Hotel-Cape Town

We enter The Peninsula All-Suite Hotel’s lobby, and plop down on one of the sofas. We need a plan B for our day, but we are lost as to what to do.

Sensing our bewilderment, Alistair approaches. He asks if we are checking into the hotel today.

A bundle of kindness, effervescence, and animation, Alistair is magical. I mean this as the most complementary of comparisons, but have you ever seen the Steve Martin version of Father of the Bride? Alistair, reminds us of Franck, the wedding planner.

We explain our dilemma to Alistair. We were supposed to go paragliding, but it got rescheduled because of the wind. We had to check out of Villa Sunshine Guesthouse, and although we are extremely early for the Peninsula’s check-in, we figured we would arrive and then try to formulate a plan B for the day.

Alistair to the rescue.

First, he suggests that we get the logistics of checking-in out of the way now, so later, when it’s actually time for check-in, we can go straight to our room. The hotel would be more than happy to tag and store our bags for us so we don’t have to carry them around. Alistair recommends that we head out to grab some lunch, and then take a walk along the Sea Point Promenade. By the time we are done, our room will be ready.

It is an excellent plan B, and it’s exactly what we do.

When we return, check-in day is in full swing. There is a station set up in the lobby where we are offered a glass of wine. Kids have their own station where they can get juice and popcorn.

Wine glasses in hand, Alistair spots us, and has a staff retrieve our bags, and show us to our room.

When we enter the room, the curtains are closed. The staff opens the curtains in a dramatic fashion, and we understand why. The view is stunning (I never take the scenery for granted, and dramatically fling the curtains open each morning to savor the view).

I head out onto our balcony, to enjoy my wine while breathing in the ocean air. I feel confident that our week staying at The Peninsula All-Suite Hotel, will be fantastic.

Room

As is the name, All-Suite Hotel, our room was a suite that included a small kitchen, spacious bathroom, bedroom area, and a living room area.

The colors and decor were bright, friendly and comfortable (I took one of the best naps I’ve ever had on the sofa after our Wine Flies Wine Tour).

Location, Location, Location

The reason we chose The Peninsula All-Suite Hotel, was its location. As we were using the Hop On Hop Off Bus as our main transportation for the week, it was important to stay close to one of the stops. The Peninsula All-Suite Hotel had a stop right across the street.

The Peninsula All-Suite Hotel was also across the street from the Sea Point Promenade. The Promenade was beautiful, and wonderful, and we took a walk along it almost everyday during our stay.

Also directly across the street, was Sunset Beach, where we watched the spectacular colors change in the sky.

There were a variety of stores and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, and there was a MyCiTi bus stop in front of the hotel. It was the perfect home base for our week in Cape Town.

Eats and Drinks

We ate at The Peninsula All-Suite Hotel’s restaurant, Stolla, two nights during our stay.

The atmosphere was casual and cozy. The food was tasty. The drinks were well made and fun.

We were thankful for the dining option on the nights we felt worn out, and didn’t feel like venturing out for a meal.

The hotel also had a great cafe.

Though our suite’s kitchen had a coffee maker and all things needed to make a morning cup of Joe, the cafe’s drinks were so affordable and expertly crafted, we made a visit almost every morning. We were up and out early most days, but there were a couple of slow mornings that included coffee sips on the balcony.

One of the evenings we had a relaxing time sharing a bottle of wine in the hotel’s bar, Faces.

We didn’t get a chance to try the Sunset Restaurant, and during our stay the swimming pools were out of commission. The hotel has its own shuttle that will take you to some of the popular attractions, but as we already had plenty of transportation options, we never utilized the shuttle.

At the end of the week we agreed that The Peninsula All-Suite Hotel was one of our favorite stays so far. The location was ideal, the view was wonderful, the room was comfortable, the staff, especially Alistair, went above and beyond, and there were great, convenient, options for eating and drinking. If we ever return to Cape Town, we would stay there again.

Oh, that’s a great location in Cape Town. We stayed at the Hippo Boutique Hotel off Kloof street last time and loved it.

The Peninsula Hotel looks like a beautiful place to stay – and anyplace that serves wine at check-in is my kind of place!

The wine was a nice touch, though I’m also pretty fond of the check-in cookie at some other hotels.

This looked like you had a great time. I love those hop on hop off buses! They are so convenient and no need to rent a car! Thank you for sharing.

Don’t you love when somebody comes to your rescue in the most natural way? I am glad you got somebody to help you out with your planning after the paragliding was canceled. I get messy when I am nervous and cannot think well. My husband is not a planner at all. I would love a little hand once in a while. #WeekendWanderlust
