My Current Favorite Travel Podcasts

I am a great consumer of podcasts, and I’m fortunate to have a 9-5 job where I can spend a good portion of the day listening to them. At this point, I feel that at times I spend more time with my earbud friends than my actual friends, which leads to me probably driving everyone crazy during conversations by saying things like,

“Well Extra Pack of Peanuts said….” or telling everyone about the mysterious death of Elisa Lam that I’ve heard about on countless true crime podcasts.

Since I’m such a podcast fangirl, I thought it would be fun to list my current, favorite, travel podcasts.

I’ve been listening since season one. I love stories, and being someone who is so drawn to storytelling, I greatly enjoy the well- crafted stories people share on the episodes. If that wasn’t cool enough, each story comes complete with its own individually composed soundtrack.

Hayden is a great interviewer and a fantastic storyteller himself. He is able to personalize each episode to fit with the various guests, who range from travel bloggers/vloggers, to other podcasters, to authors. There is a good variety and Hayden is able to highlight each guest’s uniqueness.

This was the first travel podcast that I listened to and stuck with for the long term. I was drawn to it partly because Travis and Heather reside in the Philadelphia area like I do, and partly because it’s just a great podcast.

Their dynamic together as a couple and with their friends and guests is always entertaining. They love and talk a lot about food, which I’m a fan of. Travis is a fellow ice cream enthusiast (I went to Glacier in Boulder based on his recommendation) and Heather always gives great coffee shop recommendations. I’ve learned more about beer than from any other source. Their Destination Diary episodes are filled with information and are always a lot of fun to listen to.

This one is a radio show from Australia that then gets podcasted. It earns huge points for uniqueness, and for its fantastic integration of music. The host is super cool and another very down to earth traveler.  Each episode is based on either a destination or a topic. They include travel news, interviews, sometimes on site at the destination, and travel topic discussions, all mixed in between music/songs that fit in with the destination or topics discussed. I’m always jotting down names of songs and bands while I listen. The podcast has a calming, laid back vibe, so it’s a great one for when you need a little chill out time.

I dare you to listen to this podcast and not find Craig and Linda absolutely delightful. The mixture of their Kiwi accents and their genuine, good natures, keeps me listening. They have been on the road for quite some time, and they know their stuff. The information that they impart is detailed, relevant, and always helpful. Their stories and the dynamic they have with each other always makes me smile (their episode on the Travel Stories Podcast is a great one)

There are a lot of cool ladies out there in the traveling world, and Jackie is one of them. I appreciate Jackie’s ability to speak from the heart. She has a great way of viewing and embracing the unknowns in life. Her guests are always interesting, and she is always able to get them to open up and go a little deeper with regards to their thoughts on travel and on life in general. I enjoy that she will have a guest on, and then follow up with that guest on a later show. I’m a fan of people’s journeys in life, so it’s neat to hear how past guests are learning and growing through their continuing experiences.

Just in case you aren’t sure what a podcast is, it’s like a radio show (or in some cases it is a radio show) that you can download and then listen to anytime you want.

I highly recommend listening to podcasts, you’d be surprised by how much you can learn while at work, cleaning the shower, folding laundry, or taking a walk. There are podcasts on just about everything (even one that reviews old Saved By the Bell episodes), but definitely round out your podcast listening with a little travel.

Can you believe that I have never actually listened to a travel podcast?! You have given me some inspiration! I think I will have to spend some time this snowy afternoon checking them out. The Budget Minded Traveler one sounds extra intriguing. Love, love, love the sloth logo by the way – super cute!

Don’t worry. I still encounter a lot of people who don’t know what a podcast is. I think they are catching on more and more though. There are so many out there now. If you like The Budget Minded Traveler, she runs a great Facebook group too. I love my logo too, sloths are my favorite.
