I already wrote a previous post about how this ended up being an important, significant, hike. A life altering hike in fact, so I won’t go into all of that again.
Since our last meal was sometime late afternoon the previous evening, we knew we needed some fuel before hiking. We saw a Starbucks, and turned into the parking lot, but in the midst of searching for somewhere to park, we spotting something in the distance. It was a little place called, The Egg and I. It seemed like the perfect spot to have a little breakfast.
The inside of the Egg and I reminded me of a Bob Evans.
Since egg is in the restaurant’s name, it seemed to be the thing to order.
I got the Wisconsin Scramble, which was scrambled eggs with a variety of melty cheeses. The eggs were incredibly fluffy.
Shannon got an egg, ham, and cheese, croissant sandwich.
Both of our dishes came with ranch potatoes, which still had the skins on them, just like I like them. The coffee wasn’t bad either. It was a solid, no frills, place to grab some breakfast before starting your hike in Boulder.
After breakfast, and spending more time than we would have liked finding a parking space, we entered Chautauqua Park.
The best piece of advice I can give if this is your first visit, is to stop in at the Ranger Cottage. Before our trip, I read some hiking blogs in search of an easy trail for us to hike in Chautauqua. Talking to the Ranger we learned that most of the hikes that the bloggers said were easy, were not necessarily so. The Ranger took a map and traced a route for us. One that would ensure that I would get to see what was left of the wildflowers for the season.
I highly recommend picking up a map. The trails have markers, but at times they were still confusing.
It seemed like each time we pulled out the map, we were approached by confused hikers asking politely if they could take a peak to figure out where they were supposed to go.
We took a trail that went up the mountain, and then wound back down again.
We admired nature.
We stopped to watched a free climber.
The views were amazing,
and I got to see my wildflowers.
If you are in Boulder, Colorado, and you are looking for a place to hike, check out Chautauqua Park. Just be sure to visit the Ranger Cottage first.
