I love tasting ice cream around the world, but when I need a closer fix, with a variety of rich, creamy, excellent options, I head to the South Jersey shore.
Sundae Best-Avalon
We popped over to Sundae Best while staying at the ICONA in Avalon.
Fall was in the air and in the ice cream flavors. I got a scoop of the ginger snap cookie. Just like an Oreo cookies and cream, but with ginger snaps. Being a firm cookie, the ginger snap pieces were nice and chewy. No crumbly, mushy, cookies here.
I learned I needed this ice cream flavor in my life. We only popped by briefly once, but I’m looking forward to visiting Sundae Best again.
KOHR BROS-Everywhere
Though I usually stick with homemade, hard, ice cream, I’m still down for a good swirl of KORH Bros. The first taste instantly floods my mind with carefree, childhood, strolls on the boardwalk. A time when one didn’t care about drips, sticky hands, or the stray jimmie-face-adherence. One of the advantages of soft custard, is that it’s an excellent vehicle for delivering rainbow jimmies into your mouth. They adhere, then sink in, and KORH Bros makes sure there’s ample jimmies in every bite.
In an effort to make certain that I visit them at least once during the season, KORH Bros. makes a peanut butter custard.
There’s a KOHR BROS stand/shop in almost every shore town/boardwalk, making them super easy to find. If you’re spending a week or a long weekend, you have to stop and grab a swirl at least once.
Springer’s-Stone Harbor
I’m asked a lot,
“What is your favorite ice cream?”
Like most travel bloggers/vloggers who are asked the “favorite” question, I dodge. There’s so much good ice cream in the world, I can’t pick just one, but I do always mention that one of my favorite ice cream spots in the world is Springer’s in Stone Harbor.
Springer’s is a jersey shore ice cream institution. An institution that we must visit at least once during the ice cream season. The staff are always friendly and enthusiastic about their ice cream.
The ice cream is extra creamy and every flavor pops. It’s one of my favorite places because they have my favorite flavor, Peanut Butter Oreo. The Peanut Butter brownie is fabulous too.
Stone Harbor has a relaxed vibe, and there’s nothing better than ending a day at the shore with a couple of scoops of delicious ice cream, and a walk around Stone Harbor’s downtown.
If you’re ice cream friendly, a south jersey shore ice cream pilgrimage should be in your sights.
I’ve only brushed the surface, and am on a mission to try more cold creamy yumminess.
